Phil looks like “Hippie #2” in a terrible biopic about the Sixties; I don’t want to talk about the others.
Well, I want to talk about the rest of them. Weir seems to be copying Stephen Stills’ look in the Buffalo Springfield at that time, with the cowboy hat and the Gibson Hollow Body (a 335?). Assuming this is 1968, Weir would have been 19 years old, exactly when you copy other people’s fashion choices.
Do we have a date and location for this? Any German scholars want to help us out on this?
I know there are other pictures of that short-lived hockey sweater/pornstache that Garcia was rocking.
He wore it (and the stache) at Washington University’s quadrangle 4/17/69
The pic I posted I’m not sure of location.
did not get the Mannix gig
A comment from a member of the band that opened the 4/17/69 show.
Anyone who passes judgement on Bob Weir has no respect for the total insanity of his early youth.
Left home and was raised by an insane tribe of maniacs.
I blame Society.
Phil has the non-plussed look of a man who ain’t pickin’ up no godamn trumpet ever again.
jerry’s Beliveau phase
The color and length of Bob’s pants is just foreshadowing.
Jerry is playing a SG so this should be ’69 as Spencer’s comment on sweater picture above.
Big Rock Pow Wow in West Hollywood, FL, 5/23-24/69?
He wore that sweater a lot in spring 69!
Garcia’s website has it listed as 4/17/69, so I’m guessing it’s between April and June 1969. Anybody else?
SpamJam, I say that because a lot of the pics are mislabeled.
I think that range is accurate. It does seem like the photos on the backgrounds of those show pages are just roughly from the time period, not the actual show.
This era was their STP phase. Other people may have been dressing them, at that point.
